Gavin Williams A Target?

Today's News of the World has reported that Swansea City are interested in signing Ipswich midfielder Gavin Williams, but with an asking price of £500,000?

Seems highly unlikely to me with such a high asking price.

Chairman Huw Jenkins said prior to the transfer window that the club won't be spending near as much money as last year.

£150,000 has already been spent on Ian Craney, there's also the small possibility that Painter may be allowed to join us permanantly at the end of the season and we also need a replacement for striker Leon Knight.

Kenny Jackett tried to loan the former Yeovil midfielder when he was at West Ham but they insisted he joined a Championship club.

Whilst he would be a good assett no doubt, there's simply no way we can match the asking price, if even that is true.

A source close to Williams said: "Swansea have asked about Gavin and they're very interested in signing him.

"It doesn't look like his wages will be an issue but Ipswich are looking to get £500,000 and that might be a problem. Gavin doesn't really want to leave Ipswich - but if he has to go then he wants to go back home to South Wales.

"That means he will join either Cardiff or Swansea. If Cardiff don't want him then he would rather sign for Swansea than join another Championship club."

be a good signing bu not worth £500,000
naythan_swan
£500,000 though? If that's true then its pointless trying to sign him.
KevinE
well if a reasonable deal can be struck then anything possible
sbrjack
Not worth £500k and he is a bit of a bad boy, last thing we need at the moment, should be able to get 2 good players for that amount of coin
cyjax
how can we trust him ..... he is a cardiff fan for god sakes
naythan_swan
Exactly he's a Cardiff fan...a few weeks down here and he'll be hating them like us...we'll have to make him a Jack!! Very good player but can't see it happening with that kind of asking price!!
