Akinfenwa: 'I Nearly Left Swansea'

Striker Adebayo Akinfenwa insists that he will not going anywhere in the January transfer window.

The Swansea striker revealed he nearly joined Gillingham in August as rumours were flying around at the time that he was on his way.

It's been a dissapointing start for 'Bayo' this season, he's found first team chances limited with Fallon and Trundle ahead in the pecking order.

The Rotherham game last Saturday must have given him some hope after coming on as a super sub to equalise in the last minute of the game.

Fans were calling for his introduction throughout the second half and they finally got their wish when he came on with just 11 minutes to play.

Akinfenwa commented on that and said: 'I've got so much love for the fans because they have love for me, but then I think of the players who are on the pitch and know they just want encouragement. We are all chasing the same goal after all.'

He also added: 'But he (Jackett) does speak to me every day and I don't feel isolated. He tells me that when I'm fit I'm a good player.'

Jackett has also told the former Torquay forward that he values the player and hopes that he'll be staying.

He said: I've only got three centre-forwards and I'll be looking to add to that in January, not take away. I would certainly hope he'll be staying.'

+ we thought that we were the favourites to get him last summer. Looked a bit weighty the other week, but I'd still like him to come to us.

he's a good player to have though. Lacking the fitness and stamina maybe to be a first teamer for a whole season though and a shin injury hasn't helped. i'd rather him in the squad than Fallon.

Making an impact every game he comes on for us. We seem to get the ball down more with Akinfenwa. Very direct player and a very good one aswell. I'd love to see him have a run in the team!!

Strange that he's not playing as he seemed to score some important goals last year whilst forging a partnership with Trundle.

Got a goal on new years day and hopefully there'll be a few more to come from the big man...although another striker is needed!
