Iriekpen Fined By Swansea

Iriekpen Fined By Swansea

Swansea City have decided to fine defender Izzy Iriekpen after getting arrested last Saturday.

He was taken into custody after being involved in an incident outside a nightclub on the Kingsway.

Kenny Jackett said: 'I'm disappointed that Izzy got himself in this situation and he will be fined by the club,'

'We'll have to wait and see exactly what the police do say... you don't want this type of thing as a manager.'

'I've got a couple of injury problems going into this weekend, so going to Port Vale and getting three points is another issue,' Jackett said.

'At the moment with Izzy I'm disappointed, but we have to do our best to win football games.'

Is his punishment fair? Should he keep his place in the first team? Let us know in the forum forum here

Football players are high profile individuals and many youngsters look to them as role models. Unfortunately there are plenty of idiots around who will get some sort of satisfaction from confronting players in clubs or city centres and a possible physical reaction, such as a scrap. Whatever the rights and wrongs of izzy's case, and living in Bristol I have only heard the basic details, the club must take a stand and fine players who bring the club into disrepute. Hopefully the law will sort out others who had been involved and impose an appropriate penalty. Izzy must put this behind himself and concentrate where it matters, on the field, and ensure the Swans get the right result tomorrow.
