Monk Aiming To Prove The Doubters Wrong

Monk Aiming To Prove The Doubters Wrong

Swansea City head coach Garry Monk says he's hoping to prove the doubters wrong if he does stay on as the club's manager.

There have been a lot of question marks on whether or not Garry Monk can attract the type of quality players that his predecessor, Michael Laudrup could - bringing in the likes of Spanish trio Michu, Hernandez and Chico.

Not only that, but some supporters are worried because of his lack of experience at management, having never done it before he took over following Laudrup's sacking in February.

Monk is keen to prove his doubters wrong though, just as he did as a player. When asked if he was excited about the prospect of taking the job full time, he said:

"Yes, 100 per cent. The best bit for me is that you are always going to get doubted, and you need that. It has always driven me.

"As a player, you get doubted. When they offered me the job doing this side of it, people doubted I could get us safe, and we proved them wrong.

"Next season, they will say he hasn`t got any contacts, he can`t get players, who wants to come and play for Garry Monk?

"It`s another chance to prove them wrong, which is something I have lived by in my whole career. Who says I won`t do that as a manager?"

Monk added that they'll take this season's mistakes and learn from them ahead of next year:

"The club have done it right,"

"As much as they know I have been here for 10 years and I am not going to do anything to hurt the club, you still have to go through that process.

"They want to know what you are thinking going forward, and quite rightly so. What I said to the chairman is between me and him but, of course, there are (player) comings and goings in every single club in the world.

"Yes, there will be players that go and players that come in, that`s the way it is.

"Sometimes people do forget where we`ve come from - not just outside, even sometimes us - but you also need to evolve and push forward. We`ll take the lessons from this season and make sure we don`t make the same mistakes."

Is Monk the right man for the job? Can he prove the doubters wrong?
