Laudrup Make Sign Defensive Back-Up

Swansea City manager Michael Laudrup has admitted that he may look to sign defensive back up in January, as Monk is still struggling with a serious back injury.

The back problem is so serious for the former club captain, that Laudrup wonders when or if he will return to first team action.

Therefore, with Monk sidelined indefinitely, Laudrup may look to add another defender to the squad in the New Year:

'We have doubts about Garry,'

'He has been out for a long time now. Will he recover? Will we move on with only three centre-backs? I have to make a decision.

'He has reached a certain age where of course he knows he's coming towards the end of his career, and I think it's important to be honest in a situation like this.

'I will talk to him and see how he feels whether he thinks he can come back at this level or whatever.

'We have to see if there is a solution there, or if we stick with Chico, Jordi and Ashley, or if we try to find someone else.

'But saying that, it would be difficult to find a fourth central defender on loan, because they may only play one or two games.'

The 34 year-old has struggled for games, particularly during Laudrup's spell at the club, with Chico Flores, Jordi Amat and Ashley Williams all ahead of him in the pecking order.

Laudrup also added that Monk was expected to be back in training by now:

Time has gone by and Garry is not back yet, he is still struggling,'

'We really don't know when he will be back in training, and I will have to talk about it soon with Garry because we are going into January and that's the only month where we can do something (in the transfer market).

'That doesn't mean we definitely will, but we need to know whether Garry will come back or not.

'He should be more or less available again now, but he is not even out on the training ground.

'I will sit down with Garry and the doctors and we'll see what they say.

'I don't know what exactly the problem is at the moment, but I know it's not healing in the right way.'

In a recent site poll, 68% of voters said they wanted the Swans to sign 1-2 new players in the January transfer window.
