Akinfenwa Set For Return

Akinfenwa Set For Return

Swansea City striker Adebayo Akinfenwa is set to return to training tomorrow and hopes he can be in contention for a place on Sunday as the Swans take on Millwall at the Liberty Stadium.

A stress fracture of his left shin has meant he has spent the last few weeks on the sidelines, but 'Bayo' and physio Richard Evans are confident that he'll make a quick return to action.

With Leon Knight's career with the Swans virtually over, Jackett only 2 strikers available in Rory Fallon and Lee Trundle, so the Swansea boss will be hoping Akinfenwa can add to his forward options this weekend.

Akinfenwa said: ''It's been a frustrating couple of weeks, but I feel I'm nearly there now.

''If training goes okay tomorrow I'd like to think that I would be considered for Sunday's game.''

Physio Richard Evans added: ''The consultant suggested that Bayo's big, powerful, muscular upper body is a mis-match for his lower body which he needs to strengthen and stretch.

''He had the same problem in his other shin last season, but we managed it well and got him back playing again pretty quick.''

However, right back Kevin Amankwaah could be out for up to 2 weeks after suffering an ankle ligament injury during Tuesday's cup game at Walsall.

Alan Tate then is likely to return to right back, with Tom Williams on the opposite flank as Swansea face Millwall at home on Sunday.

Dennis Lawrence looks set to join Iriekpen in a central defensive partnership.
