It seems like the media are really exaggerating the latest stories regarding manager Michael Laudrup and Michu respectively this week.
The two main stories, which aren't anywhere near as big stories as the media are making out, involve Laudrup's claims that he was linked with a move to Chelsea, plus Michu being apparently valued at £30m.
Manager Michael Laudrup has recently been quoted as simply saying:
'Someone from Chelsea tried to know my availability but there was nothing concrete.'
Clearly, Laudrup wasn't a serious contender as Jose Mourinho was always the big favourite to make a return to Stamford Bridge. However, the media love to turn a quote into something bigger than it is, and some of the crazy headlines about this quote include 'Chelsea Wanted Me Over Mourinho Says Laudrup' and 'Jose Mourinho may not have been the first choice for Chelsea'.
Meanwhile, Michu is back in the news following his deserved call-up to the Spain squad, and chairman Huw Jenkins recently spoke his valuation:
"We`ve seen with Tottenham and Gareth Bale that every player has a price. We are not in that bracket with Tottenham but they sold a top player. We are realistic about that side of things,"
"I would say Michael was about right with his valuation of Michu if you look at the current market, but this call-up enhances that further."
"We know we have a very talented player and naturally we want to keep him."
One website believes that Jenkins 'hinted that Michu may leave in the coming window if the bidders meet the club`s valuation of the player.'
Laudrup had previously valued Michu at around £30m - and Jenkins agrees with that figure. The quotes now seem to have sparked the media into reporting that Michu could be set to leave in the January transfer window if the right move comes in. Maybe he will, but something tells me that's a big if, Michu appears to be happy at the club, working with one of the best managers he's ever had, and you wonder if any club would be willing to big £30m yet for the Spaniard.
The international break means there's 2 weeks without club football so the press still have to sell papers, even if that means blowing stories out of proportion to attract people in reading them.
