You got no points last season for tipping Forest as favourites for promotion. No one, not even the most pessimistic of fans could have expected failure on such a grand scale. But once the ginger one or Gary Megson was replaced, so were Forests' fortunes, under the temporary guidance of Frank Barlow and Charlie Mcparland. For a short while they gave us all the false and undeserved hopes of a playoff place.
This season however, things look a little different. We have a new man at the helm in Colin Calderwood, who guided Northampton to promotion the last year. Within 3 mins of the new campaign we lost our most potent weapon in Nathan Tyson. He is out until at least November and will be sorely missed. There are few sights better in football than seeing a striker run at defences and frighten them to death, Tyson has pace to burn. He has however been replaced by an in form Grant Holt, who has hit 5 goals so far (6 if he is to be believed)
The Reds' have been winning without playing particularly well, but a win is a win and after last year we are taking them where ever and when ever we can. Calderwood who has done no wrong so far, insists on playing a 3-5-2 formation. The players are doing their damndest to show him they don't know how to play this. But CC is a determined man and is beating them all with with sticks to make sure they do. We have also been missing our playmaker Kris Commons, who can, when he feels like it turn a game in an instant. He is at present easing his way back into the first team and should play on Saturday.
This fixture is going to be a tricky one to predict, as both teams can be unpredictable, but i will have to go for a Forest win as we are at home. I think if you were to ask most Forest fans before a ball has been kicked, what they want from the game, most would take a draw. The one thing that is making everyone twitchy on Trentside is the Lee Trundle factor, he can score when you least expect him to , as he did against us last year. We kept him quiet for about 85 mins and he pops up from nowhere to bang one in.
This will be an important game for both sides, not a six pointer, but it could go a long way in showing both sides how their respective seasons might go. It could be a cracker. You are one of a handful of teams who bring some sizeable support to the City Ground, so it should be a good atmosphere.
Any way, not too much good luck for Saturday, you wouldn't believe me if I said anything else. But definitely for the rest of the campaign. All the best and a safe journey to all of you travelling up.
