Bony Set For Swansea City Medical on Tuesday

Vitesse striker Wilfried Bony is expected to undergo a medical and complete his 12m move to Swansea City on Tuesday [July 9th].

The club's Summer Tour in Holland couldn't have come at a better time as the player won't have far to travel to undergo a medical, put pen to paper and meet his new manager and team-mates.

While it looks like all the agreements between the club and player will be completed on Tuesday, the further details of the move - including a work permit - may not be confirmed until the middle of this week.

Despite those minor details, the move looks to be all but confirmed, as chairman Huw Jenkins said:

'Hopefully everything will be sorted between the clubs in the next few hours,`

'There are still things to sort out, though. There will be a couple of days` work to sort out the work permit, but hopefully there will be no problems.`

After what seems like weeks and weeks of discussions and negotiations between the Swans and the Dutch club, Jenkins and Laudrup's patience is expected to pay off with the arrival of a 24 year-old striker who has so far averaged a goal every two games in his career.

It's incredible to think that Swansea City are able to pay out 12m for a player who looks to have the goalscoring ability to trigger the add-ons that would increase the bid to almost 14m (13.8m).

Following links with Lyon's Gomis and St Etienne forward Aubameyang, the Swans turned their attentions to Bony, who netted 31 goals in 30 games last term, making a 'very very serious bid' for the Ivory Coast international - according to his agent.

Vitesse dug their heels in however as the Swans were the first to show a serious interest in their star striker. Their unwillingness to co-operate and respond to bids saw Jenkins grow frustrated in their efforts to meet Laudrup's top priority - signing a proven striker to support Michu next season.

The player's agent then showed his frustration - revealing a broken promise they had with the Eridivisie outfit. An agreement was made in January that the player could talk to interested clubs if a 10.2m bid was made. Such bid was submitted, but Vitesse decided to reject it as they hoped for a bidding war, as West Ham United entered the race for the wanted striker while Everton and Liverpool were also reportedly tracking his progress.

The Hammers' interest soon faded following a rejected bid, as Swansea refused to give up their hopes of landing their top Summer target as Jenkins revealed that he didn't think personal terms would be a problem in completing Bony's signing.

When it looked like Vitesse would never co-operate with Huw Jenkins, as his patience was almost worn out, the Dutch side finally played ball and gave Bony his wishes to complete a switch to the Premier League.

Bony started his career in 2006, playing for Issia Wazi in the Cte d'Ivoire Premier Division. In 2007, he went on trial with Liverpool but wasn`t offered a contract.

After a loan spell at Sparta Prague, he was signed permanently and it was here that he started to prove his goalscoring ability, netting 22 goals in 59 games for the Czech Republic side.

His goalscoring record attracted the interest of Eridivisie outfit Vitesse, who paid around 3.5m for his services in 2011. The move certainly paid off for the Dutch club, as the Ivory Coast international scored 46 goals in just 65 games, increasing his overall career tally to 70 in 138 games.

The 24 year-old looks to have all the credentials to prove to be another top signing by Michael Laudrup. He might be the club`s new record signing, easily beating the 5.5m paid for Pablo Hernandez, but hopefully he won`t feel the pressure that his price-tag potentially brings.

Bony apparently wanted to join a club where he`ll be the main striker, and that looks very likely at Swansea City. Michu can drop back into his preferred central attacking midfield role, and they have the potential to form a deadly attacking partnership.

With Leroy Lita and Luke Moore expected to move this Summer following their Holland Tour absence, Laudrup definitely needs a second striker to cope with the extra demands that the Europa League brings next season.

Before there was even talk of players coming in, there were issues between the club, manager and his agent - which now appear to be exagerrated by the media. They assumed Laudrup's future was in doubt, but despite there being disagreements over the club's transfer policy, he insisted at least 3 times that he was staying at the Liberty Stadium.

Bony's arrival for 12m goes a long way in solving those previous transfer issues, as Huw Jenkins was willing to smash their transfer record with an eight-figure fee, putting a lot of confidence in Laudrup's judgement.

Swansea City's transfer activity is not expected to stop at Bony though, as Jenkins added that 1 or 2 more could arrive before August 31st:

'We will look to finalise this deal first, but we might look to bring in one or two others.`
