Vitesse striker Wilfried Bony says he's hoping that he completes a move to Swansea City soon, but a member of the board - John van Zweden reveals that they're still far apart in terms of agreeing terms.
Despite Vitesse denying anything had been agreed with Swansea City, John van Zweden says they expect to meet the club's asking price for the Ivory Coast forward - which would almost double the £5.55m record fee paid for Pablo Hernandez.
'We will reach an agreement with Vitesse but we have yet to agree terms with Bony and we're still pretty far apart,'
Earlier in the week, his agent got carried away and said they his client is set to join the Swans, but there's still work to do if they want their man. As we all know, Huw Jenkins and the rest of the board will not move away from their strict wage budget, and like they tried to do to attract Gomis, bonuses and signing on fees could be their way to attract him to put pen to paper at the Liberty Stadium.
Swansea City still appear to be front runners in the race for Bony, and the fact that Bony wants a move goes in their favour, as he said:
'The clubs are now talking to each other, Swansea has made Vitesse a bid and I hope it's good,'
'Swansea is a wonderful club. It's my chance to play in the Premier League and they also play attractive football.
'I understood from my agent that Swansea want to pay €12 million [£10.2m] for me and that is what Vitesse want to receive, so I hope there is some good news soon.'
The Swans won't want to miss out on another big striker this Summer, as Bony sounds like just the type of player they need for next season. Scoring an incredible 31 goals in 30 League games in Holland's top division last year, he'd add a big goal threat to the team and ease the pressure off Michu who could return to his preferred attacking midfield role.
Manager Michael Laudrup is looking to sign up to 5 players before the end of August, so three more could come in following the arrivals of Spanish duo Jose Canas and Jordi Amat.
