Wieghorst Plays Down Talk Of Succeeding Laudrup

New assistant manager Morten Wieghorst has played down talk that he could succeed Michael Laudrup as Swansea City manager in the near future.

Speculation has grown ever since he was appointed to join Laudrup's managerial team that he could be a part of the club's future plans for when their manager does decide to leave the Liberty Stadium.

However, Wieghorst has played down talk that he could move up to manage the Swans in the near future, as he told the Evening Post:

'It's a compliment of course (to be mentioned by Laudrup), but I don't think along those lines,'

'There is speculation back home as well, but I have only been here a month and people are trying to put me into the next position.

'I am not thinking that far ahead, to be honest.

'I am not saying I am not going to go back into management. I think I will do that at some stage, but not right now.

'Right now I am really enjoying being the assistant coach at Swansea and I'm concentrating on doing my best here.

'I have always lived that way — do your best whatever role you are in and then the future will take care of itself.'

'For now I am enjoying my role and I am really looking forward to the next few weeks and months.

'We are looking to finish this season on a high and then we will build for next season.'

Speculation that he could take over Laudrup increased even further when he tipped his fellow Dane to replace him when he goes:

'I certainly believe he can be manager here,'

Wieghorst has been tipped as Denmark's next big manager and he has achieved similar success as Michael Laudrup in management. He guided FC Nordsjælland to winning their first major trophy as well as qualifying them into the UEFA Cup.
