Laudrup: de Guzman Wants To Stay at Swansea City

Swansea City manager Michael Laudrup says that he 'knows' that Villareal loanee Jonathan de Guzman wants to stay in South Wales.

The Swans is obviously keen to make his season-long loan move a permanent one after an excellent season in the Premier League.

After a rather slow start, the Dutchman has grown in confidence with every game and he's now proving to be a key midfielder for the team.

Laudrup told the Official Site:

'It's always difficult to say what's going to happen.

'A lot of clubs are thinking about the end of the season - promotion, relegation etc so they have a lot of important things to think about.

'Jonathan is playing very well and he's scoring goals. But he is happy here and I know he wants to stay here.'

According to the Evening Post, Villareal may demand around 8 million euros for the 25 year-old, which is almost £7m.

If the Swans did pay that for him, then it would break the existing transfer fee record of £5.55m paid for Pablo Hernandez.

A Swansea City spokesman told the Evening Post:

'We are in discussions with Jonathan, his agent and Villarreal to sign Jonathan on a permanent deal,'

The player's agent also added that he will be having a meeting soon with the club's board:

'Jonathan loves life in Wales and is delighted to have made it to the Holland squad,'

'It is only the beginning of March. I will be having a meeting with the Swansea City board in two weeks' time.'

Hopefully the Swans can make de Guzman's move permanent at the end of the season. If they do, it would be a major boost as Laudrup prepares to strengthen his squad ready for their Europa League campaign in 2013/2014.
