Swansea Offer Contract To Real Betis Midfielder
Swansea City could make their first January signing soon after offering a contract to Real Betis defensive midfielder Jose Canas.
Reports suggest that the club have offered the 25 year-old an 18-month contract, which could triple the wages he's earning with the La Liga outfit.
Canas' current contract expires at the end of the season and talks over a new deal seem to have stalled as he is keen to link up with Michael Laudrup at the Liberty Stadium.
A move for Canas in the New Year is one that definitely looks likely, given his interest in a move to the club and that Real Betis, in administration, are not in a position to ignore a chance to sell a player with just 5 months left on his contract.
Canas is a product of Betis' Youth Academy and made the jump up to the first team two seasons ago before cementing a regular place.
Yet to score for the club, Canas is known for his defensive duties in midfield and looks a good alternative to Leon Britton.
While Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins has suggested there could be 1 or 2 new players arriving in January, manager Michael Laudrup says he's targeting a player in each outfield position, with a striker a priority to help support top goalscorer Michu. Celta Vigo's Iago Aspas has been linked although his agent insists he's going nowhere.
