Vorm: Signing New Contract An 'Easy Decision'

Swansea City's number 1 goalkeeper Michel Vorm told GK Icon that it was an easy decision for him to sign a new 4-year contract.

The Dutchman has proved to be one of the outstanding goalkeepers in the Premier League thanks to his consistent and excellent performances, as well as making key saves to help the team pick up valuable points.

After an excellent first season in the English top flight, the club was obviously keen to secure his services for the long-term future as I'm sure many clubs would have been tracking him.

Vorm told GK Icon though that he is happy in South Wales and is glad to be playing regular football, which has seen him earn a call-up to the Dutch national team:

For me, signing the new contract was an easy decision,"

"First of all, I play every week and I have earned my spot in the squad, I enjoy the club very much, how we play and I have a good feeling about the club. Everything is perfect. It was not a hard decision to sign."

"Of course the media talks about you when you are doing well and links you with other clubs but I am enjoying my time here.

"If it ever happens that a big club comes in then we will see what happens. No big club has come in to buy me and I don`t think about other clubs.

"My focus is on Swansea and if a big club really wants you then the length of the contract doesn`t really matter."

Vorm also spoke about the team's hopes for the season, and while he admits survival is the first target, he feels there's no reason why they can't improve on last year's 11th place finish:

"First and foremost, the most important thing is to stay up because they always say the second season is harder.

"But I work with these players every day and I know the quality we have so I believe we can improve on last season. Last season was a great achievement and this year could be better, maybe eighth or ninth - possibly even seventh.

"We have some new players and they are getting better every week. We are also under a new manager so people have been getting used to each other and I think we will continue to improve."
