Pardew Pleased With Performance Despite Defeat

Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew was pleased with his side's performance despite them losing 2-1 at home against Swansea City.

The Magpies looked to bounce back from a disappointing 1-0 defeat against West Ham last week, but Michu and de Guzman piled more misery on them and their 50,000 fans at St James' Park when they both scored in the second half to put the Swans 2-0 in front.

The hosts struck back with a late goal in injury time but it was too little too late as Swansea City held on for only their second away win of the season.

Newcastle United had plenty of possession and chances, but many of which were long range efforts that flew harmlessly over Tremmel's goal.

Pardew told the club's Official Site:

'Up until they scored I was in a fairly good mood,'

'We had a young side out with a lot of experienced players missing, and we had a real good application to the game, a good shape to us and were putting good pressure on them.

'We created numerous chances but just couldn't get the goal, and I felt if we scored the goal then we would have been in a great position.

'Unfortunately they scored, and the period after that is where we lost a bit of confidence and shape. You would expect that from a young side and with what happened last week.

'I have no complaints about the performances today, but we need our best players and we have to try and bring them back.'
