Laudrup: We Lacked That Extra 5%

Swansea City manager Michael Laudrup felt his side lacked that extra 5% to beat Southampton at St Mary's today.

The Swans had to rely on super-sub Nathan Dyer to score an equaliser against his former club to grab a point against the Saints.

The visitors dominated the first half but it was the home side that tested the opposing goalkeeper with a number of long range shots.

The second half saw a more entertaining affair, as both teams looked to take the lead. Southampton put the Swans under more pressure as they forced the issue a little bit more. The opener came when Schneiderlin cleverly headed the ball past Monk and again to beat Tremmel after poor defensive work from a long ball into the box.

Nathan Dyer then came on for Wayne Routledge and he took advantage of slow play amongst the home defence, as he stole possession before breaking forward and firing a low shot past the goalkeeper which went in off the post.

The Swans found it difficult to get Michu involved in the game, and after the game Laudrup said:

'To be honest, I think in the first half we passed the ball around really well,'

'But we lacked that five per cent when we arrived in the last third of the pitch. You know, that last pass in between the lines or that one-on-one.

'But I really think we played well; a really good passing game in the first half.

'Then in the second half it's true that Southampton put us under pressure [with] very direct play and you could see they wanted and needed the win.'
