Williams In No Rush To Sign New 4-Year Deal

Swansea City defender Ashley Williams says he is in no rush to sign a new 4-year contract at the Liberty Stadium.

The Welsh international defender has two years left to run on his current deal, but the club are keen to secure him to a long-term stay in South Wales.

Whilst Williams says he's in no rush to put pen to paper, he hasn't ruled out doing so:

'It's a boost and always nice to be wanted,'

'It is early days and we haven't got down to talking about it.

'But there's no rush as Swansea know me. I've been here five years and they know I'm not bothered about contracts. I just get on with the job.

'How could I not be happy at the minute? It's been a great start, in fact perfect. I'm captain and I'm enjoying it.

'If the contract is right for me to sign now, then I'll sign it. If it's not, then I won't sign it. It's no big deal or pressure. I may sign it in the future. At the minute I'm happy.'

It's no surprise that Swansea City are looking to tie Williams down to a new long-term contract, as the centre back has played a significant role in our rise from the lower Leagues. Former boss Roberto Martinez signed him in 2007 when the Swans were in League One, and he has been a first-team regular ever since.

What is a surprise though, you could say, is that the Swans have yet to receive a serious offer for the defender - given he has proven his quality at every level up to the Premier League and internationally.
