Reserves Win At Whaddon Road

Swansea City Reserves beat Cheltenham Reserves 4-3 at Whaddon Road yesterday, with Knight, Akinfenwa and Butler getting on the scoresheet.

Starting Line-ups:

CHELTENHAM TOWN RESERVES: Brown, Gallinagh, Allard, Connolly, Wylde, Baldwin, Yao, Foley, Sankoh, Whittington, Vincent (Woolf 67). Subs not used: Puddy (Gk), Shatford, Walsh, Shepherd

SWANSEA CITY RESERVES: Oakes, Graves, Burgin, L.Morgan, Watt, Way, Jones (Holland 90), Chambers, Akinfenwa, Knight, Butler. Subs not used: Fisher, C.Morgan, Lancey, Otten

The Swans named a strong side with the likes of Leon Knight and Akinfenwa up front while Darren Way also played the whole 90 minutes after spending the last 8 months out with an injury.

We began the match well and scored within the first minute. Youngster, Chris Jones was impressive down the right wing and he sent in a cross to Knight who finished well from 12 yards out.

6 minutes later and Akinfenwa doubled our lead thanks to a pass from Thomas Butler.

The Robins then got back into the game with two goals in 8 minutes to go level again.

On 13 minutes, Foley had an easy tap in to make it 2-1 and 8 minutes later trialist Sankoh got the easier.

The Swans regained the lead just two minutes later though, thanks to an own goal from James Baldwin.

Oakes made a few good saves in the Swansea goal but he wasn't helped by some dodgy defending.

He saved a penalty after Akinfenwa handled inside the area.

We then went 2 goals in front early in the second half. Way passed out wide to Knight and his cross was met by Butler who scored an excellent goal with a diving header.

With around half an hour left, Cheltenham scored again to bring it back to 4-3, but Swansea held out for the win.
