Swansea City manager Michael Laudrup says watching his first game in charge was 'very important' as he gets to knows his players ahead of the new Premier League season.
The Swans kicked off their USA Summer Tour in the early hours of this morning with a 2-1 defeat against the Colorado Rapids, but Laudrup was glad to see all but two of his senior players in action.
His players found it difficult to cope in the warm 32C temperatures and the high altitudes, but they showed improved improvement as the game went. The hosts went 2-0 after 14 minutes before de Guzman scored a superb 25-yard strike from a free kick to pull one back in the second half.
Laudrup shared his thoughts on the game with the Official Site:
"They were two different halves,"
"In the first half we had some problems, we played too slowly. They scored two goals - the second was a fantastic one.
"But we were better in the second half. We had more pace and position play.
"We created three of four chances. We scored one and could have got another one at least.
"It was a very important game for me to see. I got to see every player expect from Gwion Edwards and Michel Vorm.
"I took plenty from it - that`s why we are here.
Whilst Laudrup revealed a few weeks ago that he had watched last season's matches on DVD, he wouldn't have seen most of the fringe players in action, as former boss Brendan Rodgers liked to pick the same side week in week out. Therefore, it was a good exercise for him to see almost every player in the game. He added:
"I wanted to come here open-minded. I`ve seen a lot of other players from last season, while there are others who I haven`t seen that much from. So I wanted to see for my own eyes, that`s why everyone played 45 minutes.
"We will do the same for the game on Saturday (against Ventura County Fusion).
"The temperature was a little hot, but the altitude was a factor. You have to get used to the speed of the ball.
"But it was a good game for me to see."
