Could 12 Players Leave Swansea City This Summer?

There could be a up to a dozen Swansea City players shown the exit door this Summer as Michael Laudrup looks to make his squad smaller and more competitive for the new 2012/13 season.

The 48 year old currently has 34 senior players on the books at the Liberty Stadium, and the Dane would preferably like to work with 22 or 23 individuals. Laudrup says this is because every player has a genuine chance of getting a first team opportunity.

With that in mind, who should the club release this Summer? The Swans have a number of youngsters in the squad who have been offered professional contracts in recent years, but Laudrup may have to consider which of them are worth keeping on and those who are unlikely to progress into first team players in the near future.

The young players he will have to cast an important eye over include Lee Lucas, Ben Davies, Joe Walsh, Casey Thomas, Daniel Alfei, Jordan Smith, Gwion Edwards, Ashley Richards, David Cornell and Kurtis March. Other young players, not to come through the Youth setup, include Curtis Obeng and Rory Donnelly - both of which were signed by Rodgers last season.

That's twelve players, then you consider other players that only played bit-part roles last term in the Premier League, such as Leroy Lita, Luke Moore, Stephen Dobbie and Federico Bessone.

Some fans would also question whether or not it's worth keeping the likes of midfielders Andrea Orlandi and Mark Gower.

Michael Laudrup certainly has a lot of thinking to do before the new season kicks off at QPR on August 18th, deciding which players to release while also looking to make some new signings to boost the squad for another tough top flight campaign.
