Sigurdsson Set To Join Tottenham Hotspur
Gylfi Sigurdsson looks set to join Tottenham Hotspur next week as reports suggest he has agreed terms and passed a medical.
The former Swansea City loanee has a lot to thank Brendan Rodgers for, but he will snub the Irishman to join Spurs, who finished fourth in the Premier League last season.
Before the 22 year-old was signed on loan by the previous Swans boss in January, the Icelandic midfielder was out of favour at German outfit Hoffenheim and struggled to get regular first team games.
However, after a successful spell on loan at Swansea City, Sigurdsson has earned himself a big money move to the Premier League, despite having only played barely five months of football in the English top flight division.
After Rodgers left the Liberty Stadium to take over at Liverpool, Gylfi looked certain to follow him to Anfield, but Spurs, despite being managerless, came in with a late, improved bid to scupper their chances of landing the promising youngster. It appears better personal terms attracted him to White Hart Lane over Anfield.
Swansea City ruled out their chances of keeping Sigurdsson permanently because they wouldn't get involved in a money war with the other two interested clubs, as they realised they couldn't compete financially. Michael Laudrup believes the money could be spent elsewhere on other targets that he will pursue over the coming weeks.
