Rodgers Can't Sign Any Swans Player For A Year
Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins has put a deal in place that denies Brendan Rodgers the opportunity to sign any of his former players.
Fortunately the Swans won't suffer the same thing that happened when Roberto Martinez departed three years ago - as he bought top goalscorer Jason Scotland as well as denying us the chance to sign midfielder Jordi Gomez.
Rodgers is a manager who likes to sign players he's worked with before, but he won't be able to try and sign the likes of Michel Vorm, Ashley Williams and Joe Allen for at least a year.
Chairman Huw Jenkins explains the agreement the club has with the new Liverpool boss:
'We have got some protection on Brendan coming back for our players in the initial period, which I think is the right thing,'
'He has got a timescale to assess things there and that is going to take him a while so I've got no worries there. We have got a 12-month respite.'
Jenkins also mentioned the disappointment they have of losing Brendan, but the club will move on:
'We are obviously very, very disappointed that we lost Brendan but things move on,'
'I think that naturally he has got massive belief in his ability and he felt that if he was the right candidate he would go forward.
'Obviously my only loyalty is to my football club and when we had Brendan working with us we wanted him for some years to come but the reality is that everyone has ambition and sometimes that ambition has to be realised.'
