Rodgers: New 3-4-3 Formation Worked

Swansea City manager Brendan Rodgers said the new 3-4-3 formation worked today despite throwing away a 4-1 lead to draw 4-4 at home to Wolves.

We all thought the new setup was working wonders after 15 minutes, as we were 3-0 up by then after goals from Orlandi, Dyer and Graham.

However, Wolves got one back near the half hour mark and from then on, the Swans lost all of their shape and confidence.

Rodgers said:

'The experiment worked,'

'The three-diamond-three formation we started with allowed us to cut Wolves open and we could have had a few more in that opening period.

'I thought in the first half we were outstanding going forward.

'But we allowed them back into the game with the first goal and I was disappointed with the second because we missed a header and Jarvis was able to score.

'We gave Wolves the oxygen they needed and at 3-0 the game should have been dead and buried.

'It wasn't the change in formation that was the problem, it was when we went back to the conventional system that we had problems.

'We changed back to our 4-3-3 with 10 minutes to go in the first half and for the second half and that's when we had problems.

'The biggest disappointment for me is the way we defended because we gave away some very poor goals.

'I said to the players in the first half we played like a team, in the second half we played as individuals.

'I would not want to go through too many games like that again.'
