Rodgers: Sigurdsson Has Slotted In Perfectly
Swansea City boss Brendan Rodgers has praised new loan signing Gylfi Sigurdsson, saying he has slotted in 'perfectly' since joining from Hoffenheim.
Surpisingly, the Icelandic struggled to earn himself a regular first team place with his German team, and made the switch to South Wales on loan for some much needed first team football.
Sigurdsson scored a brace to help the Swans beat Wigan Athletic 2-0, and he scored another brace today in the 3-0 victory at Fulham.
'I felt we needed a goalscoring midfield player having assessed the team for the first six months [in the Premier League],'
'He has slotted in perfectly and he is a wonderful lad. Our group love football, they work hard every day and for me he is a player that has got a big talent.
'The system and the way we play suits him. Obviously he went to Hoffenheim and it hasn't worked out for him, but there are certain players that can play in a certain style in a certain philosophy.
'He has certainly coped and adapted very well.'
Rodgers will obviously want to sign him permanently in the season, but they're likely to face competition from Hamburg who are also interested in signing the attacking midfielder.
Sigurdsson could cost Swansea City up to £6m, the price Hoffenheim paid Reading for his services.
