Rodgers: Moore Can Be a Top, Top Player

Swansea City manager Brendan Rodgers says Luke Moore is a 'top, top player' after he came on as a substitute to score the winner in the 1-0 win against Manchester City on Sunday.

Big things were expected from Luke Moore as a youngster at Aston Villa, but he struggled to work his way into the first team at Villa Park, and he later joined West Bromwich Albion.

His career failed to develop at the Hawthorns either, but Rodgers showed faith in the striker and signed him at the beginning of 2011.

Rodgers believes Moore can be a top player for the Swans, as he still looks to secure a first team place at the Liberty Stadium.

"He scored a hat-trick at 19 years of age in the Premier League and for whatever reason his career drifted a bit.

"But he has got the talent to be a top, top player.

"He is quick and strong, you could see his strength and power when he came on to hold the ball up.

"And he is brilliant in the air."

Moore showed his ability in the air on Sunday, as he headed home Wayne Routledge's cross to give Swansea City a massive home win against Manchester City.

Rodgers added:

"He`s 26, but he is still a big talent.

"The FA Cup goal was a world-class finish and he can make a big contribution for us here.

"I think he`s found a home. The environment here is very positive for him.

"He does not get criticised for making mistakes, we encourage players to play with confidence and if they make a mistake they have to let it go. He has benefited from that.

"Luke also loves the area. Initially he moved outside of Swansea a bit because we wasn`t so sure when he moved away from the Midlands, but now he is right in the heart of Swansea and he loves it."
