First £5m Signing Not Far Away Says Swansea Boss

Swansea City manager Brendan Rodgers says it won't be far away before they make their first £5m signing.

The Irishman says the club aren't in a position to make £10m or £15m signings like a lot of other Premier League clubs can, but Danny Graham at £3.5m won't Swansea's record signing for much longer it seems.

Who knows for now, but hopefully Hoffenheim loanee Gylfi Sigurdsson could be that £5m signing this Summer. The Icelandic midfielder has proved a superb signing this year, scoring both goals in last week's 2-0 win at Wigan Athletic.

Brendan Rodgers said:

'The time when we spend £5m on one player may not be far away,'

'If it's the right type of player and everything is set up for the club to benefit, and if I believe as manager it's the right thing to do, all we can do is put that forward and see what happens.'

'There's no doubt you need quality and a lot of top players cost money.

'Look at someone like (Steven) Caulker. If you were to buy someone like that it would cost a lot of money, and Gylfi will cost a bit of money.

'But we are not going to be regularly spending £10m or £15m on players because this club is not set up to do that and we won't be looking to do that.'
