Rodgers: Performance Was Outstanding In Wigan Win

Swansea City manager Brendan Rodgers said his side's performance was outstanding in today's 2-0 win at Wigan Athletic.

On loan Hoffenheim midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson netted either side of half time to help the Swans get back to winning ways after two consecutive defeats.

The Icelandic curled in a superb opener on the stroke of half time before another excellent solo effort from a free kick.

Rodgers' side stay in 14th place but they extend the gap from the bottom 3 to 11 points.

'I felt that the overall performance was outstanding.

'It was always going to be a difficult game coming here, even though Wigan haven't won here for quite a while, they've had some terrific performances here and there's always that bit of added pressure.

'But I thought today with the ball in that first hour we were terrific and we'd scored a couple of goals and could have had one or two more, the creativity was there.

'But obviously important for us is also our defensive resolve and that was tested in the final half hour.

'Overall I thought we were much the better side and thoroughly deserved the three points.'


Rodgers is not getting complacent though, and refused to say that his team look safe from relegation this season, adding:

'Well no, we certainly won't be until we're mathematically right - we can't afford to take our foot off the pedal.

'We're a very small club working in a big league and we just try to focus on every game.

'We've got no points tally, we just want to go into every match and sweat blood for the club and the shirt and that's what the players did today.'
