Swansea City skipper Garry Monk said he was disappointed that none of his team-mates were called up to the England squad.
Manager Brendan Rodgers told the media recently that striker and the club's top goalscorer Danny Graham deserved a call-up to the England squad for their friendly match at Wembley against Michel Vorm.
Leon Britton, Nathan Dyer and Scott Sinclair have also been mentioned recently as possibly candidates for England international duty.
Monk told the Official Site:
'There had been a lot of speculation in the media that at least one of the boys would get the call,''
'But it wasn't to be.
'Deep down they probably felt they had a good chance and while they will be disappointed I'm sure it won't have a negative effect on their performances for us.
'They've got to take the positives from the fact that they were actually being considered. Even to be mentioned means that they have obviously been doing something right.
'They've all been doing well for us and they've got to keep giving the England manager, whoever that is in the future, selection problems by maintaining their standards.
'At least the fact that me, Tatey (Alan Tate) and Paul Scholes have announced our international retirements will make it a bit easier for them to get the call!''
Assistant manager Colin Pascoe said his players should keep on working hard to try and earn an international call-up:
'Can Swansea players play for England? I think so, yes.
'We aim high as we are disappointed. Lads like Danny, Scott, Leon and Nathan have been looked at and they've been playing very well in the Premier League.
'They know they've got to keep their standards high and hopefully next time they'll be in the squad.
'They're playing football in the Premier League, people are watching them and it's the first time they've been considered. They know that's a great honour and there's plenty of time for them.
'That's the next step. Every professional wants to play internationally. We've just come from the Championship, it's our first year in the Premier League, so you have to take it step by step.'
