Donnelly: Sinclair Convinced Me To Join Swansea

Rory Donnelly says Scott Sinclair helped to influence his decision to join Swansea City over Liverpool and Everton.

The Swans looked to be losing the race to sign the young Irish striker when Liverpool and particularly Everton confirmed their interest in him.

However, Donnelly didn't follow the money to Everton, while Liverpool later withdrew their interest - and he joined the Swans.

The former Cliftonville frontman was always going to get more of a first team chance with the Swans compared to Everton where opportunities would be hard to get.

Donnelly said:

'I was chatting with Scott Sinclair. He went to Chelsea and he said you can get lost at such a big club,'

'He's come here and has done well and the gaffer played a really big part as well.

'It's more like a family club. The supporters get on really well with the players.

'There are no big-time players here.'

Donnelly also says he has settled in well at the Liberty Stadium:

'I've settled in well. The players are great, they've made me feel really welcome,'

'All I can do is repay them by scoring goals to help the team.

'It's a big step up so it's something I'll have to get used to.

'The boys play really good football and that's why they are where they are.

'It's more of a physical challenge and I have to adjust to the speed as well — I'll keep working on that.'

He also seems happy that Rodgers is in no rush to get him involved in the first team:

'Brendan (Rodgers) has said he's not putting any pressure on me,'

'He doesn't want me to be in the first team now. There's no pressure on me.

'He said 'just keep on doing what you're doing and we'll see if you can get in next year'.

'Swansea give youth a chance to play really good football.

'There's loads of similarities between Swansea and Belfast. The people are very friendly and they've welcomed me very well.'
