Swans Target Wrexham Defender

Rumours emerged last night that Swansea City are targetting Wrexham and World Cup International defender Dennis Lawrence.

The Evening Post are also reporting the news today that the centre back could possibly be 1 of a few players that the Swans are looking at.

Manager Kenny Jackett is looking to strengthen his defence after losing captain Garry Monk for 4-6 months after damaging knee ligaments.

Chairman Huw Jenkins said: 'We're working hard to try to bring in a centre-half, and there are three or four ideas we're concentrating on.

'We're hopeful that we'll get someone in before the transfer window closes, although we all know how hard these things can be.

'There are not a lot of players around to go for, but (chief scout) Kevin Reeves is watching game after game trying to give us options.

'But then we have to see what the particular club think and then we have to try to agree with the player.

'The problem is that whatever league they're in, everybody is keen to hang on to their better players.'

Kenny Jackett said he won't be signing players just for the sake of it, he added: 'We're looking to strengthen, but I only want to sign someone if they have the experience and quality to improve us,'

'Maybe I spent too much time in the summer aiming too high, going for players who had a lot of options and who ended up with some big contracts.

'But it's obvious what we need now and there are irons in the fire.'

dennis looks like a strong defender and might be worth signing him.
swanzboichris
And if he does join us he'll finally give us some height and heading ability in the box - not just for defending!
KevinE
He is 32 and plays in League 2. There must be someone better than him around. What about a premiership reserve player? There must be some available looking for first team experience.
Doms
Didn't realise he was that old! I wouldn't want us to pay hardly anything for him.
KevinE
i never thought he was 32 but i think still worth signing

you can tell the cardiff website is crap because cardiff people have to come on here just to talk, why don't you go and make your "cardiff website" and when its better then ours come back and then write us off!!
swanzboichris
this would be a good addition to the side we need some solid cover for Monk . He could be the man for the job and thanks youngs 121 for spaming really grown up that.
sbrjack
wouldnt we be beta off finding a player with skills like best or giggs who can control the ball the length of the pitch and finish off - i cant see we need another player with aerial skills - and is it just me or do we need someone who can play on the east stand side of the pitch?
donknina
we need a defender not a midfielder or striker.
swanzboichris

wouldnt mind him. not at £100k + tho.
bdazzler1
He will be good for our defence. Although now in League 2 he has proved himself in League 1 and on the World cup stage. Don't think Wrexham will let him go.
