Vorm 'Very Proud' After Penalty Save

Vorm 'Very Proud' After Penalty Save

Swansea City goalkeeper Michel Vorm said he was 'very proud' after Saturday's penalty save at home to Fulham - helping his side win 2-0.

After Scott Sinclair's deflected shot in the second half, Fulham were forced to attack after failing to create a single chance on Swansea's goal.

Martin Jol's side were soon causing problems for the home defence but Vorm was equal to every shot that came his way. From rushing off his line to narrow the angle, to being alert to deny a one-on-one situation. Not to mention his late penalty save that helped gain us two points.

Vorm said:

'I am very proud. I am a humble guy and this is why I play football, to enjoy that kind of moment and to be important for your team and your club,'

'Saturday was my turn and I'm very pleased.

'Everybody was pleased we won. We have a very good team and a good team spirit. Everybody was so happy because the pressure was a bit on as we did not win our last four games.

'The first 60 minutes were very boring for me, but after we scored Fulham were getting better and better. We had some tough minutes.'

Vorm was booked for timewasting, as Dempsey prepared to take his shot, but the Dutchman said he was simply taking his time to prepare himself.

'The moment the referee pointed to the penalty spot I took my time, not to get Dempsey out of concentration, but so I could concentrate on the moment,'

'I got a yellow card but I tried to wait as long as possible.

'He (Dempsey) was watching me until the last second but I was waiting for him to go for a corner.

'In the end I went for the right one with everything I had and stopped it.

'Those kind of moments are very important. Had they scored it would have been 1-1 with a couple of minutes to go.

'If you can stop a penalty you can do something very important for your team.

'It's very hard to stop a penalty. You have to be lucky sometimes and I have been lucky two times.'

Before the game, Vorm said it was a 'must-win', as he could feel the pressure building after they had failed to win in their last four.

'I felt the pressure all week. The pressure is on. We had to win against Fulham,'

'I also know Fulham have some good players and it was not going to be an easy one.

'We had to win. Everybody knows we can get clean sheets at home and that was very important.

'I think that's our sixth clean sheet at home and that's incredible, but you have to score also.

'Clean sheets are important but if you don't score you only get a point and I would rather have three points than a clean sheet.

'It's important for me to keep a clean sheet and everybody knows it's hard to score at the Liberty.'

'We work hard together every day,'

'Coming here has been very easy, everybody tries to help you, and that's very important to keep confidence.

'The team spirit is very good and that's very important for the whole season.'
