Swansea City Back In For Middlesbrough Defender?

Swansea City are being linked again with a move for Middlesbrough skipper Matthew Bates.

Reports in the Summer suggested that the Swans had bid 2m for the skipper, but they were unable to agree a deal to prize him away from the Riverside Stadium.

Bates is one of Boro's key assets as they look to get back into the Premier League next season, and they currently sit in 4th place in the Championship.

Middlesbrough insisted they didn't want to sell any of their key players in the Summer, as the Swans also wanted to buy striker Marvin Emnes. However, Bates' currently contract expires at the end of the season which may help Swansea's cause and tempt them to accept a bid.

With Alan Tate still nursing a broken leg, and Caulker still yet to return from injury, not to mention the obvious weaknesses in our defence, Rodgers needs to strengthen his back line as his side conceded four goals away at Blackburn Rovers last Saturday.
