'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Kean: We Controlled The Game Overall

Blackburn Rovers boss Steve Kean was delighted with his side's 'excellent' display as they beat Swansea City 4-2 at Ewood Park.

The win eases some of the pressure on Kean, from the board at least, while their fans still protest and appeal for his sacking.

Rovers had striker Yakubu to thank for the win, scoring all four goals in the win whilst the Swans had another off-day on their travels as they still await a win on the road.

Kean said:

'The Yak will obviously get the headlines as I think he is the only Rovers player to get four goals in the Premier League,'

'It is a fantastic feat but I always believe that a striker is only as good as the service and I think the service he got from the midfield unit and from Formica, who also put in a tremendous shift, was excellent.

'I can't just single out those two, I thought everybody was excellent.

'But we are disappointed with the goals we conceded, letting them back into the game when there were stages where we were comfortable.

'Yes they were always going to have possession, that is the way they play, they pass it around, but most of it is in their own half.

'Today we were compact when we needed to be, we were expansive at the right time, disappointed with their goals but overall I felt we were in control of the game overall.

'We had more opportunities and I thought it was a really good three points.

'I set the lads a target of going unbeaten during this run of games, we've started well, now lets continue this next week at Sunderland.'

The game I saw, which was obviously different to the one Kean saw, Swansea were excellent. If hoofing every dead ball into the opposition box to your 6'8" defender " is regarded as "controlling the game" then I'm sorry Mr. Kean.

(Rovers fan here) By no means am i sticking up for Kean here but to say that all we did was hoof balls in to your box is slightly innaccurate... we did play more high balls in to the box than usual but i think this was probably because they had highlighted how poor your defence is...and if you think that your performance was "excellent" then unfortunately you are going down faster than the titanic because we are not brilliant and we beat you comfortably!! You can play all the pretty football in the world but if you have no cutting edge then you will not stay in the league...i am not patronising you but over the years that we have been in the league i think this is one of the lessons that we have learned.

PS I actually do not want you to be relegated because i do like what Rodgers is trying to do and you are a big club but i just had to comment. sorry if i have offended anyone, just my opinion...WE are average....so i do not know what that makes your perfomance on Saturday but it certainly was not excellent!

Fair comment, however, apart from Yakubu's first, Blackburn's other 3 goals were from set-pieces. We've been excellent defending set-pieces this season. Blackburn were never confortable in that game, either. Only when Joe Allen was sent off and you scored the penalty was you "comfortable".

Mani if our defence is so poor how come we have had 6 clean sheets this season?????

We started slowly--too slowly and the first goal was always going to be Blackburn's in the first 20 minutes. Jazz Richards was too easily beaten and the resulting cross led to an excellent finish by Yakubu. To be fair we came back well and equalised but towards the break we fell back too far again and allowed Blackburn to press resulting in a set piece which we didn't defend well and they went ahead again. This was the key moment really---1-1 at halftime and I'd have fancied us to get at least a point. The third goal and the penalty were results of bad defending---at this level any team will punish you as Wolves did a few games back. Overall a bad day at the office--we HAVE to beat Fulham now. I think that is a must win game to get the impetus back.
