Rodgers: Gower Deserved New 1-Year Deal

Swansea City boss Brendan Rodgers says midfielder Mark Gower deserves his new 1-year contract, which will keep the 33 year-old at the club until the end of next season.

Rodgers said he fully deserves the new deal and that he should have been playing top flight football 'years ago'.

'Mark thoroughly deserves this,'

'He is a great professional who is getting a chance in the Premier League when he probably should have been playing at this level years ago.

'He started out at Spurs and you need a bit of luck to break through at a club like that. Mark didn't get that, but he has made the long journey to the Premier League and now he is making the most of it.

'He has made a valuable contribution to our success and I'm delighted for him and his family that he has the new deal.'

Gower has his critics amongst the fans in particular but Rodgers has shown faith in the central midfielder, and has been regular ever since Agustien has been sidelined with injury.

Despite some criticism towards Gower, he has proven to be a consistent, accurate passer, and one who creates a good majority of goal opportunities.
