Rodgers: Allen Was Outstanding vs Chelsea

Swansea City manager Brendan Rodgers had special praise for Joe Allen after his performance against Chelsea on Saturday.

The young Welshman started at Stamford Bridge yesterday in the centre of midfield alongside Leon Britton and Mark Gower, and he had the tough task of containing the likes of Ramires, Mikel and Meireles.

Rodgers told Sky Sports:

'I thought our young player, Joe Allen, was absolutely outstanding,'

'Twenty-one years of age and he showed that he's got a great future ahead of him and great confidence and ability with the ball.'

He also thanked the Chelsea supporters for giving him a warm welcome return to the Bridge:

'It's [Chelsea] a very special club,'

'I used to stand in here many times watching everyone else getting interviewed, trying to learn and progress, and all of a sudden you're sat here.

'The reception, I really appreciate from the Chelsea supporters.

'It's a club that gave me every chance and possibility.

'I wouldn't be a Premier League manager today if it wasn't for them.'

Swansea was really great as an attacking unit (better than the start of the season), but I guess struggling on the defensive side (a bit like we are). Allen was great, and Sinclair made me wish we hadn't let him go. Best of luck for the rest of the season! P.S. I enjoyed watching the play-off final against Reading far more than the ManU/Barca game at Wembley! Cheers

Nice comments BlueBanes. Our attacking is improving though we struggled with Chelsea's movement and physicality. Allen played well, though he lost Ramires too often. Sinclair was ok too but doesn't get enough shots off, which is our big problem. Defensively both teams looked shaky, the difference for you at Chelsea is that you can bring on someone like Drogba to score vital goals and Torres is looking sharper each game--his goal was terrific I thought. All the best--hope you catch both Manchester outfits.
