Rodgers Confirms Monk Fit For West Brom Game

Swansea City manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that captain Garry Monk is fit for Saturday's home game against West Bromwich Albion.

The Swans have had a bad week for injuries, with Kemy Agustien, Craig Beattie and Steven Caulker all set for between 6 to 8 weeks on the sidelines.

The defensive is severely lacking but Monk's return at the weekend will be a big boost, especially considering that there's no other defenders available, apart from full back Fede Bessone.

The captain has yet to feature this season as he hasn't played a competitive match since the Play-Off final in May, but if he starts on Saturday he will have captained the Swans in all four divisions in the English league.

Rodgers said:

'On and off the field we have had some bad luck,'

'But Steven has been absolutely first class since he has been here and he has started the season magnificently.

'But Garry will be available for Saturday. We have looked strong defensively so far this season and one of the things that has been apparent since I've been here is our strength in depth.

'But I've spoken to him and he has told me he is ready if called upon. The spirit is strong in the group and if he tells me he is ready to play then he is.'
