Swansea Consider Plans For 7,500 Extra Seats

Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins has revealed they have looked into plans to add 7,500 more seats at the Liberty Stadium.

Ever since our promotion to the Premier League, demand for match tickets has sky-rocketed with every home this season set to be a sell-out at the 20,500-capacity stadium.

Huw Jenkins revealed at a recent fans' forum that there have been discussions about adding another 7,500 seats, which would cost around £10-15million.

The question is though, would we need the increase in capacity if the team got relegated from the Premier League?

Jenkins said:

'Looking at the existing structure, we can't build on that. Anything we did with the current stadium would involve building behind, similar to what Manchester United and other clubs have done.

'Looking at the studies that have been done, we're thinking about building behind the two ends of the ground and the east stand.

'That would take us up to about 7,500 extra seats.'

Jenkins says increasing the Liberty Stadium capacity would depend on the club's development:

'It depends on our development this season and beyond. As always, we try to take one step at a time.

'If you had said a few years ago that the Liberty would be at 20,000 capacity every week with a 5,000 waiting list for season tickets, people wouldn't have believed it, because I remember being at the Vetch with my dad when there were 2,000 there.

'I look back to the Wembley game when we had 40,000 people there and I have to admit I never thought we'd do that.

'If we can take our 20,000 to 27,500 we'll have achieved a massive step forward again.'
