Dyer Relishing Routledge Challenge

Nathan Dyer is under no illusions that he needs to be performing to the best of his ability to keep his starting place in the Premier League.

Brendan Rodgers signing of Wayne Routledge from Newcastle United for £1.8 Million, means strong competition for places out-wide for Swansea City and, Nathan Dyer accepts that he and Scott Sinclair will need to be on top of their game.

"Wayne coming in means there is great competition for places," said the 23-year-old.

"He can play in a number of positions, but obviously one of those is on the wing, so me and Scotty will have to be on our toes.

Dyer also understands that strength in depth will be key to the Swans survival in the upcoming campaign and rotation in selection will also play a role.

That`s fine because you want that and you need good players like him to come in and make sure we have that squad to compete in the Premier League.

"When you look around the division, even with the teams at the top, no-one plays every game. So there will be times that I know I`m going to be on the bench and others will get a chance.

"But what you have to do is make sure that you are working hard every day and be at your best to make sure that you are in and around things."

Just like every youngster growing up, Dyer is no different when it comes to playing in the best league in the world and has admitted that Monday can't come soon enough as he looks to upset the odds and show the world the 'phenomenal' football Swansea play:

"We`ve all been looking forward to this, but not just since May," he said.

"We`ve been waiting a lot longer than that because when you`re a kid watching Match of the Day you know then that this is where you want to be.

"We know we have the chance to show we can hack it at the top.

"And we have the belief in ourselves that we can do it because the football we play is phenomenal.

"I`m not sure a lot of the Premier League sides will really know how we can go about things.

"Hopefully we will shock a few people, even though we know it can be tough.

"It starts on Monday and a team who have made some big signings and have amazing players like Sergio Aguero.

"But, despite all that, they are still a team that can be beat.

"It`s going to be hard for us, but this is what we all wanted and we can`t wait."
