Swansea City Target A Centre Back

Swansea City manager Brendan Rodgers says he is now looking to bring in a centre back as he closes in on signing FC Utrecht goalkeeper Michel Vorm.

After today's 1-0 friendly win at home to Real Betis, Rodgers said in the post-match press conference that he is now targeting a centre half after moving a step closer to completing the signing of Dutch goalkeeper Michel Vorm.

A shot stopper was at the top of his wanted list, having lost number 1 goalkeeper Dorus de Vries after he turned down a new contract to join Wolves.

As he looks set to get the goalkeeper he wants, he now says he'll turn his attentions to strengthening the defence. The only defender signed this Summer is Tottenham Hotspur loanee Steven Caulker.

When asked about Caulker's absence today from the friendly match, Rodgers simply said it was just a precaution and that he'll be 'fine' to play against Manchester City on 15th August. With Garry Monk injured and Neil Taylor's suspension being mentioned, the Swansea boss simply said he was 'looking to bring in another defender.'

It's good to hear that Rodgers is targeting another centre back as that's one position that we're lacking for strong cover. Tate will be playing at left back for the opening game to replace Taylor who is banned. Monk is unlikely to play due to injury which leaves only two centre backs available to play - Ashley Williams and Steven Caulker.
