Swansea City manager Brendan Rodgers is hopeful that Nathan Dyer will sign a new contract to extend his stay at the Liberty Stadium.
The winger, who was voted the Fans' Player of the Year last season, sees his current deal expire next season and the Swans will soon have to get him secured under a longer deal before they risk losing one of their biggest assets for nothing.
The club has lost key players recently because they haven't got them signed to longer contracts - Darren Pratley and Dorus De Vries both rejected new deals this Summer to join other Premiership teams.
Nathan Dyer said himself that he had his best season of his career last year, and his consistent and impressive appearances saw him deservingly win the Fans' Player of the Month award.
Media speculation is linking him with a sensational move to Liverpool, but with the amount of reports going around at the moment, and chairman Huw Jenkins rubbishing almost all of them, it's probably another story simply made up to get a headline.
Almost two weeks ago, Dyer said he'd love to sign a new contract:
'If the deal is right for me then I'd love to sign a new contract - there's no doubt about that.
'My career has really developed here at Swansea and the manager (Brendan Rodgers) has really helped me a lot.
'I want to keep pushing myself and hope my ability will cause a few problems in the Premier League.
Rodgers said:
'Having spoken to Nathan, I know he felt last season was the best season of his career,'
'He knows the areas where I think he can improve on what he did last season, the areas that can add more value to him as a player.
'Hopefully we can find an agreement on a new contract because Nathan is not a player we want to lose.'
'But he is still young at 23 and I feel he is playing in a system and for a football club that are perfect for him.
'Hopefully we can find an agreement on a new contract because Nathan is not a player we want to lose.'
'Hopefully the club will be in a position now to take away that doubt with the players who are coming into the final year of their deals,'
'Obviously the players have to agree new contracts for us to avoid losing them for nothing, but hopefully we will be able to sort them all out.'
