Swansea City In Talks To Sign Striker Pavone
There is growing speculation this evening that Swansea City have held talks with representatives of striker Mariano Pavone as the club move a step closer to sign the former Real Betis player.
The Swans are competing with fellow Premiership side Blackburn Rovers as they have the first chance at attempting to sign him having shown an earlier interest in the 29 year-old.
However, the player's representatives are fully aware of Swansea City's interest and are believed to be impressed by the club and particularly the manager, Brendan Rodgers.
Pavone's British representative Barry McIntosh said:
"Mariano has been left in limbo because of the Blackburn situation,"
"He just needs to go to a club where he will have a chance to play and Swansea could be that platform.
"If it was just about money, he would not go to Swansea. But I`m a believer that there is more to football than just money. If the difference is only 10p elsewhere then the player will go to Swansea.
"They have Spanish players at the club, they have a British manager who speaks Spanish and has made a real effort.
"I know the area of Swansea and the club well from previous dealings.
"The player has offers from elsewhere so they must move fast, but it would be a great move for him."
Pavone began his career at Estudiantes. He was there for 7 years scoring 51 goals in 172 appearances before joining Real Betis in 2007.
Pavone is available on a free transfer having bought out the remaining 1 year on his contract at Real Betis. He netted 16 goals in 76 games with the Spanish side, he has also one international cap with Argentina.
