Swansea City Table £1.5Million Bid for Routledge
A Swansea City representative confirmed this morning that the Swans are in talks with Newcastle United over the potential transfer of the 26 year old winger.
Wayne Routledge has been the subject of much transfer speculation during the current window, however, it appears Swansea are now leading the race after submitting an offer in the region of £1.5 million.
The former Tottenham Hotspur and Crystal palance winger impressed on loan at Loftus Road last season and it looked as though a deal had been made between QPR and the player. For whatever reason that deal has seemingly fallen through with the two parties failing to agree personal terms.
That has now sparked an auction for Routledge, with Nottingham Forest and Cardiff City joining the race for his signature - but with Swansea City now entering the fray with the lure of Premier League football, all that's left to negotiate is the transfer fee itself.
A Swansea City official said: 'The club is in discussions with Newcastle'.
Wayne Routledge has accumalated 26 goals and 44 assists in 290 professional games.
If a deal can be agreed, Wayne will no doubt provide Swansea City with further options out wide over the course of what will be a long and difficult opening season in the Barclays Premier League.
Newcastle United had previously expressed an interest in Neil Taylor and thought they had secured their man through a release cause in his contract, only for the Swans' chairman Huw Jenkins to shut the door on a proposed move to St James Park. It remains to be seen whether the Swansea City chairman will use that previous interest as a barganing chip in the persuit of Wayne Routledge.
