Swansea City Target Senna Stays At Villareal

Swansea City transfer target Marcos Senna has signed a new contract at Villareal, ruling out our chances at signing the midfielder on a free transfer.

Reports have emerged this evening that the 34 year-old has agreed to sign a new deal at Villareal, keeping him with the Spanish club for his tenth season.

Swans manager Brendan Rodgers said last week that Senna would be too expensive in wages, but chairman Huw Jenkins followed that up, saying a deal to sign Senna wasn't "dead".

There were also rumours recently suggesting that Villareal were looking at signing another midfielder which would have cost them less in wages than holding on Senna.

The player published a message publicly on social networking website twitter, stating he made the decision to stay in Spain, and snub a move to play Premier League football at the Liberty Stadium.

The news comes as a big blow to our Summer transfer plans as he has been one of our main targets since last season ended, but we'll now have to move on and look at other players who can strengthen the squad in preparation for the new campaign which kicks off on August 13th away at Manchester City.
