Swans Offer Oakes 1 Year Contract

Swansea City have offered former Walsall goalkeeper a 1 year contract after a successful trial with the club.

The 29 year-old is available on a free after Walsall released him this summer.

He also played 45 minutes in our first pre-season friendly against Carmarthen. He played in the second half and managed to keep a cleansheet. The match ended in a 3-3 draw with Trundle, McLeod and Knight on target for the Swans.

Oakes is nor gd, i no this cause is team went dwn last season and that says it all!!

The defence would have played a part in their relegation as well. When we nearly got relegated from the whole FL, who was in goal? Roger Freestone! You can't just base it on that. He hasn't even signed the contract yet either!

"I just hope he can shake willy into improving" haha lol!

Hes a goalkeeper. Not a great one. he'll do as back up.
bdazzler1
I suppose he'll do as backup, but we want a keeper that can compete with Gueret for the no.1 spot, not sure Oakes can do that.
KevinE
No Kev. Nor am i. But i dont think theres much else about. Never know tho, he might suprise us all.
bdazzler1
yup i very much hope he is decent cover. Kenny can bring the best out of player .
sbrjack

He was good enough at Hull for Derby to fork out nearly £500,000 for him. He's been released by Walsall mainly because they can't afford to renew his contract. Seems like a decent enough stopper, and hopefully can return to the level he was at Hull.

Gueret let in 3 goals against Carmarthen with Monk and Austin in the middle of the back four. Second half Oakes had Izzy and Watt in front of him (my first choice pairing) and a clean sheet, may be he had nothing to do. A sound defence can give a Goalkeeper greater confidence. Gueret does need to boss and shout to control his area effectively.

He's not a bad keeper at all. Swindon had probably the second best keeper in the league last year and went down. Always remember, the ball has to get past ten outfield players before the keeper!!

I guess we dont really know how good he is yet...maybe he can really challenge Willy and crack his way into the team!! If he joins us!!
Jackman2006
Maybe going to a better club than walsall will let him shine a bit.
