Swansea City manager Brendan Rodgers says his side have another chance at promotion after missing out on finishing in the top 2.
The Swans boss says he had hopes of achieving automatic promotion but after a poor run of form, Norwich City remained strong and achieved a move up to the top flight along with title winners QPR.
Rodgers said:
'We've been given another chance,''
'A few weeks before the end of the season we felt we were good enough to finish in the top two, and that was our aim.
'But we slipped up away from home on a few occasions which made it very difficult for us.
'It wasn't to be, so we turned our focus towards finishing as high as we possibly can and then if a door opened for us we would be ready to go through it.
'I can still remember watching the TV at the beginning of the season when they were predicting who would finish in the top six in the Championship. Even when they looked at the clubs who had an outside chance of making a push for those six places, Swansea City wasn't even mentioned.
'Instead the players have been fantastic and I think people have enjoyed watching us play this season. But I'm well aware that it's no good playing all the football if you don't have penetration. That's key.''
The Swans begin their play-off campaign with a trip to Nottingham Forest in the first leg on Thursday, and the squad will be looking to forget about their disappointing 3-1 defeat there earlier in the season.
Rodgers added:
'We had a lot of the ball that day considering we were so poor,''
'But as always we'll be going to win the game. If we don't then all we can ask is that we are still in a good position for the second leg.''
