Hull Sign Ricketts For £300,000

Hull Sign Ricketts For £300,000

VITAL EXCLUSIVE: Sam Ricketts is on the verge of completing his £300,000 move to Hull City after passing a medical and agreeing terms.

Kenny Jackett said: "It is disappointing that Sam has gone because he is a very good full-back who can play on both sides,"

"I gave him permission to go up to Hull on Tuesday and Wednesday and he came into training yesterday morning.

"But he was still unsure of what to do, so I allowed extra time off to consider his options.

"Sam has thought long and hard about this decision, but in the end he expressed his desire to join Hull."

'There are still three weeks until the season begins so we can be patient, but we have spoken to the PFA (Professional Footballers' Association) and they have said if it goes on much longer then they will be prepared to step in.'

Huw Jenkins insists the money received for Ricketts' sale will be spent on new players.

Chairman Huw Jenkins said: "I know the supporters will be as disappointed as me and Kenny to lose Sam, but I can guarantee them all that every single penny from the transfer will be used to strengthen the squad even further.''

Jenkins also said that the clause was ammended when his contract was extended. He added:

''When we extended Sam's contract last year, it was something he and his agent insisted on. Without it, he wouldn't have signed and we could have lost him for nothing.

"The minimum figure was £500,000 last season, dropping to £300,000 after July 1 this year.''

Andy Robinson has now attracted the interest of arch rivals Cardiff City while Stoke City are rumoured to be the latest club showing an interest.

Despite reports last week saying Tilson had given up on the midfielder, Southend have apparantly increased their bid for the scouser.

I had respect for Ricketts but that has gone out of the window now. If he plays this season the way he did last, he will not make it into their 1st team and will then not get Welsh call ups. Greedy git.

Good business, nice little earner. Ricketts was very poor last season and went missing in a vast majority of games. Struggled to cut it in league one, will not cut it in the championship. Now is the best time to sell him before other clubs suss out how average Ricketts really is.

These clauses in players contracts just make them greedy I'm afraid. It's a sad fact of life but some players aren't in it to play football, they just want the moolah. Hope you find a better replacement, all the best
