Rodgers: Borini Lives To Score Goals

Brendan Rodgers says new loan signing Fabio Borini 'lives for goals' after he scored two on his debut at home to Nottingham Forest.

The young Italian impressed in his first game since his move from Chelsea as he helped us beat Forest 3-2 to end our poor run of form.

Rodgers has praised Borini saying that he expects to score a goal in every game that he plays in:

'Fabio lives for goals,'

'First and foremost he expects to score in every game he plays.

'He has come here to get us goals and he is the type who will at least come close every time he goes on to the pitch.

'He always looks like he is going to score or get an assist. That's his function in our team and he is happy with that.

'We will let him play with the freedom to express himself and usually, when you do that, you get performances.'

When he first signed, some fans questioned how effective he could be as a lone striker due to his lack of height, but he certainly showed that he can be physical and create a presence up front despite being far from the biggest of strikers in the division.

Rodgers added:

'You saw how physical Fabio can be against Forest,'

'He played against one of the toughest defenders in the league in Wes Morgan — he won't get a bigger physical test than that — and his strength and power shone through.

'He coped admirably with Morgan and, whether he is playing at home or away, Fabio wants to score goals.'

Borini is currently on international duty with Italy under-21s so he won't be back with his Swansea team-mates until Thursday, so Rodgers may consider resting him for Saturday's trip to Preston.

Rodgers worked with Borini when he was at Chelsea and he added:

'He put everything into his debut and had a fantastic impact,' Rodgers said.

'I am pleased for the club. They showed belief in me again by letting me bring in a young player when lots of clubs wouldn't have taken a chance.

'There's great joy as a manager in seeing a player who you first saw as a boy producing the performance of a man.'
