Borini: Rodgers Inspired Me To Join Swansea City

New loan signing Fabio Borini says Brendan Rodgers was the reason why he turned down a number of clubs to join Swansea City.

The Italian, who's 20 years old next week, had the chance to go back to his native Italy on loan as well as the option to join a number of other Championship clubs, but he says Rodgers was the main reason why he decided to make a temporary switch to the Liberty Stadium.

Borini has looked very impressive in the Chelsea Reserves team, and is a big prospect for the future.

Borini told the Official Site that he is looking forward to playing and scoring goals for Swansea City:

'Brendan Rodgers was key to me coming here.

'He called me to ask if I fancied playing for Swansea in the last nine games of the season and help the team get to the Premier League.

'I said yes, not because of the Premier League, but because of him. He was my old Reserve team manager at Chelsea and I liked the way he taught football and the way he treated people to create a positive environment.

'If I'm honest, as an Italian playing in the Premier League, I didn't know anything about Swansea. I've spoken to Scott (Sinclair), who I played with at Chelsea, and he's told me a lot of good things about the city.

'The main thing for me is to play first team football. I haven't had many opportunities at Chelsea this season, but is that surprising when you have the likes of Anelka, Torres and Drogba ahead of you? They are some of the best strikers in the world.

'I'm looking forward to pulling on a Swansea shirt. I met the lads for the first time in training today and they seem a nice bunch, with plenty of jokes.''
