Rodgers Delighted To Sign Chelsea Striker Borini

Swansea City manager Brendan Rodgers said he was delighted to complete the loan signing of young Chelsea striker Fabio Borini.

Vital Swansea reported yesterday that he was hoping to sign a striker and that Borini was the wanted man. The Swans boss was at Stamford Bridge last night along with assistant coach Colin Pascoe to tie up the loan move.

Rodgers told the Official Site:

'I'm delighted with the signing,''

'He's a player I tried to get earlier in the season but because of complications with his contract at Chelsea and the fact that he was in and around the first team, he didn't get permission to go out on loan.

'He's a young player with great potential. He's got intensity, passion and a natural goalscoring ability.

'I worked with him in Chelsea's Youth and Reserve team and I firmly believe he will help us a great deal during the run-in.''

The 19 year-old striker has served his country at every level up to under-21s, making a total of 67 international appearances since 2007 and scoring 22 goals.

Borini started his career at Bologna before joining Chelsea in 2007 and was a regular for the Reserves team, netting 10 goals in 11 games.

He made 8 appearances for the Chelsea senior side last season, including 4 in the League, but he has yet to feature this year.

In October 2010, Borini scored an impressive 5 goals in a single Reserves match, to produce an amazing comeback for Chelsea who were 3-0 down against West Brom, they went on to win 5-4.

Good player, in my eyes better than Sinclair. But we'll see. It is a strange contract situation with Chelsea so this was a surprise move.

He's got a lot to do before proving he's better than Sinclair. Great debut though and well taken goals. Looks like he'll really help our final promotion push
