'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Rodgers Target 10 Wins For Promotion

Brendan Rodgers believes his side needs 10 wins from the remaining 16 games to win automatic promotion to the Premier League.

Swansea City are currently in 5th place on 50 points, just a point behind 2nd placed Cardiff City - who have a game in hand over us.

Rodgers says 6 wins should be enough for the play-offs:

'We've got three cycles left in my mind,''

'I always chop the games into blocks of six and the final cycle is a block of four games.

'Six wins and a few points here and there would probably be good enough to get us into the play-offs. It's as simple as that, absolutely as simple as that.

'The teams in the play-offs got 70 points last year, but I would want us to get more than that because we have the ability to do that.

'If we finish in the top six this season, that will be a wonderful achievement.''

Rodgers also says he believes his side have the quality to finish in the top 2:

'It will probably take 10 wins to get us into the automatic promotion places,''

'But I believe that with a bit of consistency, we can get to the top two.

'I always feel that going into the latter part of the season, the teams who are the most dangerous are the footballing teams - and there's not a better footballing team in this league than us.

'I have got great belief in the players. They have put us in a great position and now we need to make sure we are there at the end.

'That would be an unbelievable achievement considering where we are as a club, because I still think there are a lot of improvements to be made over the next couple of years.''

no chance of 2nd if we won't start paying out for better players

Strange that Rodgers is saying that he's targetting 10 wins, normally managers always say they only look at the next game. I'm dissappointed that he hasn't addressed our goal scoring record, without goals it's going to be difficult to maintain our position. Still we have it in our own hands and we have to win one game at a time---don't look ahead. The next 3 games are vital I think---7 points from those and I feel we can make the playoffs. Automatic promotion may be beyond us now. It's going to be an exciting end to the season once again---let's do it this time.
